Yatour Digital Music Changer Review
Another option would be to fit some kind of Aux in and add an MP3 player,.or connect it to your phone. This sounds good but in practise I didn't really want to be fiddling with a phone every time I got in the car. It might be okay on long journeys, but day to day you just want to jump in your car and the music to be leave off from when you were last in the car, no messing!
After some searching I found you can get these little devices that emulate a CD changer and because many older stereos support CD changers this was a pretty good solution. The Yatour Digital Changer has an SD slot, USB and an AUX in. I used an 8gb SD card with it. You need to be a tiny bit technically minded because you will need to get to the back of your car stereo head unit, in some cases this can be tricky. I found some pretty good instructions on-line for mine. If you like taking things apart to see how they work you will probably even enjoy it.
Now there are caveats, it only reads folders named CD01, CD02 etc. (Depending on the head unit, up to 10 in my case) Each of these folders can contain up to 99 tracks. It does not display track names, only the CD and track number you are on. I have to say these limitations are minor for me, the advantages of being able to use the controls of the original stereo, it starts where it left off and has a high enough capacity.
Finding a Yatour was also tricky, I looked on ebay and even thought about importing direct from China. Then I stumbled upon it for sale at a really good price on Amazon UK, the seller electronicx.de was from Germany buy the item was sent by Amazon. I ordered what I thought was the correct model, but I got it slightly wrong (I should of checked the plug at the back of my stereo first). Even though this was kind of my fault Amazon offer such good customer service, I was able to send it back and order another one with the correct lead straight way.
